Updated September 7, 2026. What men over 40 are actually talking about — each topic is a full article, not a blurb.

Trends are noisy. The playbook pages stay. These articles are a snapshot of the conversation plus a default, not a prescription.
Health — Sleep apnea & T¶
One week of five-hour nights drops testosterone 15 percent — the same hit as ten years of aging. Undiagnosed sleep apnea is the usual reason eight hours in bed still leaves you wrecked and low-T. Morning bloodwork plus a sleep study come first; lifestyle still moves the number. The fight is TRT shopping versus fixing the bedroom.[1]

Wealth — 401(k) still compounds¶
A 42-year-old sitting on $1.2 million in his 401k was the loudest money post of the week. Average 40s balances jumped with the market, but medians stay far lower and nearly 40 percent of 40s households have nothing. Some call dumping everything into a 401k a tax mistake; the default that keeps winning is max the match and cheap funds.[2]

Nutrition — 30 g protein per meal¶
Anabolic resistance after 40 raises the leucine threshold. Twenty-gram meals barely register; 30–40 g in one sitting actually flips the switch. Guys who finally track find they were at 80 g protein and 140 g fat. You cannot out-train that.[3]

Training — One lift + 10k steps¶
The programs that survive a 40s schedule are one main lift a day, four working sets, plus daily walking. Complicated splits get dropped. Muscle is the currency; walking alone will not save metabolism. Show up, add a little, protect the joints.[4]
