Updated September 11, 2026. What men over 40 are actually talking about — each topic is a full article, not a blurb.

Not medical or financial advice

Trends are noisy. The playbook pages stay. These articles are a snapshot of the conversation plus a default, not a prescription.

Health — Sleep still tanks T

Poor sleep is the loudest complaint. Men over 40 keep posting that 4–6 hours slashes testosterone, recovery, and energy; sleep apnea is getting called a silent T killer with neck size as the cheap screen. One bad week of sleep is enough to drop free T and raise cortisol. Default stays 7–9 hours, same bedtime, then bloodwork if it doesn’t move.[1]

Wealth — Median 401k shock

The Vanguard numbers keep getting screenshotted: average 401k looks decent, median at 65 is $103k — $344 a month at 4%. Guys over 40 are running the remaining years and arguing whether it’s too late. The fight is time-left vs “the typical guy has nothing”; default is still max the cheap index in the 401k and keep contributing.[2]

Nutrition — Protein per pound

Almost every 40+ post starts with “you’re not eating enough protein.” Anabolic resistance after 40 means the old RDA is a floor, not a target — 0.8–1 g per lb in 3–4 meals of real food (eggs, yogurt, chicken, beef). Alcohol is the easy cut that also helps sleep and recovery. Count grams, don’t guess.[3]

Training — Joints first, then load

After 40 the talk is train smarter, not harder. Joint-friendly compounds (RDLs, farmer carries, goblet/box squats, chest-supported rows) plus 8–10k steps beat destroying yourself in the gym. Consistency and recovery win; the 47-year-old with one main lift plus daily walking is the model that keeps showing up.[4]
