Updated October 1, 2026. What men over 40 are actually talking about — each topic is a full article, not a blurb.
Not medical or financial advice
Trends are noisy. The playbook pages stay. These articles are a snapshot of the conversation plus a default, not a prescription.
Health — Waist, not age¶
A study circulating hard says age explains ~2.5% of testosterone variation in adult men; waist and visceral fat explain ~18–20%. Sleep, a morning panel, and shrinking the midsection beat guessing from symptoms or buying another bottle. Belly fat aromatizing T is the loop.[1]

Wealth — 401(k) still compounds¶
Men in their 40s are posting 401(k) balances and arguing the 4% rule keeps people working a decade too long. Cash-flowing assets, a multi-year cash buffer, and “don’t sell the shares” vs just withdrawing. The fight is real; the default that still wins is maxing cheap tax-advantaged accounts and leaving them alone.[2]
Read the article — the 4% vs cashflow argument and the boring 401(k) math that doesn’t need options.

Nutrition — Protein per sitting¶
Anabolic resistance is the phrase. Same protein dose builds ~40% less muscle after 40. 30–40 g per meal, breakfast included, beats a protein dump at dinner. Creatine shows up next to lifting, not as a magic powder. Distribution is the actual lever.[3]
Read the article — per-meal targets, why breakfast matters, and the default that doesn’t require a new diet tribe.

Training — Keep the power¶
Explosive power fades faster than strength. Light plyometrics and mobility through movement (not long static stretching) are loud. Lift 3×/week, walk every day. A Nature Aging paper: structured training preserves muscle energy systems; step-count matching does not. Don’t let prehab eat the session.[4]
Read the article — plyos without beating up joints, the 3× lift + walk default, and why mobility is movement not a 45-minute stretch class.

Ignore this month¶
- 90-day semen retention as a vitality reset
- DHEA bottles before the waist and the sleep come down
- Daily oysters / pumpkin seeds / zinc as the T protocol
- Covered calls and dividends as the entire retirement engine
- Plyometrics replacing the barbell work
