Updated September 9, 2026. What men over 40 are actually talking about — each topic is a full article, not a blurb.
Not medical or financial advice
Trends are noisy. The playbook pages stay. These articles are a snapshot of the conversation plus a default, not a prescription.
Health — Bloodwork first¶
“I’m just tired” is getting treated as a lab number, not a birthday. The same post keeps circulating: order the full morning panel — free T, ferritin, thyroid, vitamin D, B12 — not the bare minimum. Sleep still makes most of the testosterone; waist size is showing up louder than age in the papers people are sharing. Lifestyle (lift, protein, D, less alcohol) before anyone talks replacement.[1]
Read the article — the default panel, timing, and what to fix before you chase a prescription.

Wealth — The $44k median¶
Vanguard screenshots keep landing: median 401(k) about $44k overall, ~$68k at 45–54, ~$85k at 55–64. Four percent of that is not a retirement. The fight is “I still have time” vs the calendar; we stay with cheap indexes, max the match, Roth, and a higher savings rate. Sequence taxable first when you do start drawing.[2]

Nutrition — Eat the protein¶
Coaches are hammering the same line: you are not eating enough protein, and after 40 the leucine switch is harder. Target 0.8–1.2 g per pound of bodyweight, real food first, the same 3–5 meals on repeat. Alcohol is the first cut for sleep, recovery, and the waist. The protein-maxxing scare is noise; the stall is under-eating it.[3]

Training — One lift plus 10k¶
Busy 40s men posting the same default: one main compound, four hard sets, then 8–10k steps. Farmer carries, RDLs, goblet or box squats, walking. Joints first. Progressive overload can be load or reps. Getting off the floor without using your hands is the test people keep citing. Complicated programs lose to the one you actually do.[4]

- GLP-1s as the recomp plan
