Updated September 25, 2026. What men over 40 are actually talking about — each topic is a full article, not a blurb.

Not medical or financial advice

Trends are noisy. The playbook pages stay. These articles are a snapshot of the conversation plus a default, not a prescription.

Health — Sleep then labs

Sleep 8–9 hours plus morning light is the loudest first lever. Multiple threads repeat that testosterone is produced in deep sleep and that late caffeine, screens, and short nights wreck it. Next is actual bloodwork — total/free T, ApoB, insulin, hs-CRP — instead of guessing with powders or assuming “just getting older.” Recovery talk is walking, protein, and cutting chronic stress before adding more training. The fight is TRT clinics versus basics; we stay with sleep and labs.[1]

Wealth — The 2×–4× checkpoints

Fidelity-style multiples (2× salary by 40, 4× by 50) and the 4% rule infographic keep circulating as the simple scoreboard. The 4% rule itself is getting caveats for longer runways. Target-date funds and maxing Roth space show up as the “set it and forget it” default for guys who do not want to pick stocks. The regret post is consistent: not starting earlier. We ignore individual tickers and high-yield covered-call promises.[2]

Nutrition — Protein first, drinks last

High protein (roughly 1 g per lb or 150–180 g) from eggs, meat, yogurt, and cottage cheese is the recurring meal structure. Alcohol is the undo button — empty calories, suppressed muscle protein synthesis, wrecked sleep. Whole-food meals plus a modest deficit or maintenance, with walking, is the default most guys are actually posting. The fight is “eat more carbs” versus protein-and-deficit; we stay with protein and cutting the pours.[3]

Training — Walk, then three compounds

Daily walking (8–10 k steps or a 30-minute walk) is the base almost every thread starts with. Then simple strength: squat/hinge/push/pull, or a 3-day push-pull-legs, plus farmer carries or dead hangs for grip. Joints and recovery get mentioned as the reason not to train like you’re 25. High-volume calisthenics and daily 20 k steps are loud but not the playbook. Grip strength as a mortality marker is the concrete “why.”[4]

  • 300-pull-up / 20 k-step volume as the 40s program
